My Experience

I began doing wedding photograph over the summer of 2009 with a company called Center Stage Photography and DJ. I did a total of about 7 weddings with this company and three others that I did with one other photographer. I have learned the general sequence of wedding day events, including those during the reception. I have also learned the limitations that come along with wedding photography including those that come along with photographing in a very dark church and not being able to use flash. For each wedding we try and get to know our clients, meeting with them to discuss the types of images they are looking to get. We also have them fill out a checklist of the most important things they would like us to capture other than what we would already catch through just being there. This is helpful especially with the formal shots to make sure we don’t miss anything important.

My Style

I would describe my style as a mixture of traditional and photojournalism. During the actual wedding and reception I tend to stand back and take pictures as things happen, trying to anticipate certain events and emotions. I catch a lot of things happening that many people may have missed. During the course of each wedding day, the bride has scheduled a time and place to go for formal shots to be taken. In these photographs my style becomes more of a traditional style, where I needed to direct the subjects and do some arranging. Even during these photo shoots, however, I like to step back and let the subjects arrange themselves. I have found that people tend to arrange themselves in a logical and meaningful order and I just have to adjust the small things and do a little directing to keep things moving.
