I first met with Becky and Kevin along with their 5 dogs on a cold November evening at their home in LaFayette, where their wedding ceremony would ultimately take place. Being November, it was already dark when I arrived, but the more they told me about the property, the more excited I got about this wedding. I instantly fell in love with all of their fur children and learned that each would have their part in the ceremony, complete with appropriate wedding attire – I couldn’t wait!
When the day finally came, I couldn’t be happier with the weather; it was a gorgeous sunny day with a warm breeze. I arrived early to document everyone getting ready. As Becky had her makeup done, we focused on capturing Becky’s gorgeous dress and all the other details. As the ladies finished up, we headed over to where the groom was getting ready, which conveniently happened to be next door, at the groom’s parents’ house. The guys helped each other with the finishing touches while the ring bearer, Wyatt, was busy rolling around on the floor.
We headed back to the girls just before Becky was helped into her dress and took a couple of informal shots before the ceremony. Becky peeked out a window as the crowd gathered outside and the last of the guests were shuttled in from the “parking lot” to where the ceremony would take place.
Once everyone was settled, the wedding party, dogs and all, took their places. As the wedding party made their way from the house, over the bridge to the island, the rest of the guests watched from their seats. The archway at the end of the aisle was covered in beautiful, bright yellow sunflowers. When it was Becky’s turn, she took her stepfather’s arm and walked to the bridge, where her dad was waiting to take her the rest of the way. As Becky made her way across the bridge, we made sure to capture Kevin’s reaction as he watched his wife-to-be walk towards him.
The couple shared some laughs, exchanged their heartfelt vows, poured their unity sand, exchanged ring and sealed it all with a kiss. Everyone jumped to their feet with applause as they made their way back down the aisle and back over the bridge, with their four-legged friends at their feet. After a quick hello to everyone who attended, it was time for the formal portraits.
While Becky and Kevin were finishing up with their portraits, their guests made their way to the reception venue, Theodore’s Restaurant in Canastota, NY for a cocktail hour. The room was beautifully decorated with Fall colors; pumpkins, sunflowers, and leaves added pops of color on tables throughout. Each of the dinner tables had a rustic block of wood topped with some sunflowers and baby’s breath, a mason jar with fairy string lights inside and a unique image of the happy couple.
The reception kicked off with introductions and the lovebirds shared their first dance as husband and wife to Brantley Gilbert’s “Fall into Me”. Following their first dance, Becky and Kevin shared special dances with their parents before Becky gave an emotional speech, leaving guests in happy tears. Dinner was served.
After dinner, Becky’s father and Kevin’s brother also shared a few words in honor of the newly weds and Becky shared hugs and dances with her grandfathers. To finish up the formalities of the night, the couple met at their cake which was topped with a silhouette of a couple with their 5 dogs. They cut the cake and when Becky went to feed a piece to Kevin, she mashed it in his face. Kevin went for his revenge, smearing cake across Becky’s face. Bella, who was standing close by, joins in and the most epic cake battle ensues. They all erupt into giggles and the battle ended with the the couple cleaning each other off. It was the perfect, playful start to the party that followed!
Becky and Kevin radiated happiness the entire day, their playfulness was infectious. We are so very happy for them and feel lucky to have been a part of their day.
Congratulations and best wishes, Mr. & Mrs. Smith!
